I used to think that America, and by that, I mean the United States of America, wasn’t so great. The wars we got into, the destruction our military wreaked on other countries, the problems inside our own country. Having traveled across this land several times in a car, a plane, and hitchhiking, I have discovered where the greatness lies. It lies in the people. We are a mix of different races, religions, and styles of living. Hitchhiking in the 70s provided me with a better understanding of the greatness these differences have in making this country great as I was closer to the people and the land I was passing through.
When I was hitchhiking, I had long hair at a time when that was looked down upon. I wore colorful bell bottom pants, sported a wide brim hat with a colorful band, an army pack and an army shirt. Yet when I was hungry, I was fed. When I was in a tough spot, I was given a way out. In one case, a man who owned only two shirts literally gave me the shirt off his back because mine had been badly torn. The folks who helped me out were all as different from me and each other as night is to day. Yet, they helped out a fellow American in need.
I am now living in a small town, and I recently was very ill. My wonderful neighbors helped me out. My lawn got mowed, my chickens and ducks were taken care of, my dogs were walked. Between those kind neighbors and my incredible children, I was able to get through a time when I didn’t have the energy to walk to the bathroom, let alone care for myself and my animals. This is America. This is what makes our country so great. It’s not the military we over celebrate. It’s not the economic engine that drives us. It’s not the resources or the wide open spaces. None of these items make us great. It’s the people who live together and are willing to help out a neighbor despite their differences that makes this a great country.
I have concluded that the wars we have gotten in to have never been to protect our freedom or our land. All of them have been instigated by people who want more money and power. Those same people are now trying to tear this country apart. That’s easy to do when you own almost all of the media and can drive people’s opinions in the direction you choose. Bots on the internet are a great help to these people as well because we don’t know what is put up there by a bot and what is put up by a person. And there are enough deluded people to help the bots out.
The most recent example of this just happened. Texas experienced some horrific flooding. Quite a few people died, and a lot of property was destroyed. Yet there were posts on the internet that said Texas deserved this disaster. They voted wrong in the last election. Texans believe the wrong things. Below are a couple of posts illustrating this un-American way of thinking.
“It’s not awful. It’s what Texas deserves.”
“I’m kinda glad the weather service gave the wrong predictions…Texas deserves this.”
“The people of Texas voted for government services controlled by Donald Trump and Greg Abbot and the emergency services they got are what they deserve.”
I have one question. Are these comments made by bots controlled by those who would break up this nation or are they just knotheads with nothing better to do than to put down people experiencing a disaster? I really don’t know. I do know that these comments are not the American way and that anyone, I don’t care how rich and powerful they are, anyone who is involved in tearing this country apart should be stripped naked and sent to the North Pole.
May God bless America and those who keep the spirit alive.
