I want to start off by thanking all of my readers. As you can see, my site is totally free. I don’t sell or distribute information from site visitors and never will. They will need a warrant to get it. I do this because I like to entertain and educate my audience and because I am compelled to write. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for reading my work. Please share my scriblings as that is the main way this site will grow. Having readers gives me the incentive to write even more and your kind words in the comments, as well as any criticisms you may have, give my imagination a boost. I ask for no money, but if you wish to support me, consider purchasing one of my books from my site, localhost/mywordpress/books. Thank you!
Now, for the story.
I’m sure most of you have danced at one time or another. Throughout the ages, dancing has been a way of telling the story of a hunt, a clash with a neighboring tribe, two people coming together to make a family and so on. In Junior High School (renamed Middle School, probably to keep someone’s feelings from being hurt) we learned ball room dancing and square dancing. In high school, we did the twist, the swim, and the monster mash among other popular dances. Our parents were aghast at some of the dance moves we came up with. Yes, some dances are suggestive. The main purpose of dancing is to tell a story, attract a mate, or just vent your emotions.
Over the years, dance has been refined to a beautiful art form. The human body can make some remarkable moves on the dance floor. When combined with music, it is a joy to behold. The graceful movements emote feelings, bring joy, and pleasure to those watching. Dancing has surely, in all its different styles, advanced to a wonderful art form. Then came the 2020s.
Before I go any further, I need to consult my dictionary. My American Heritage dictionary defines “twerp” as “a silly, contemptable person.” The Cambridge dictionary is less forgiving. “A twerp is a stupid person.”
You may be wondering why I chose to insert this definition. Many of you probably already know that I am going to assert that the word “twerp” has something to do with a new, modern dance. You would be correct in that assertion. Twerp and twerking do sound similar. I would bet that the term twerking came from the work twerp. In any case, one can tell the fall of civilization is near when one watches, if one is able to stomach it, someone twerk.
Twerking is simply putting your butt in the air and wiggling it around. Most of the time it is in a suggestive manner as if you are inviting someone to do something to that butt. In this way, twerking is similar to mooning, which is a sign of disrespect. “Who moons other people?” I ask. Twerps. The connection cannot be denied. Twerps twerk.
So, when a person sticks their butt in the air, also known as mooning, they are showing disrespect for all those around them. Perhaps the disrespect goes even deeper. It could be a sign of no respect for the long history of dancing or even a loss of respect for the entire civilization. That’s what the young people who twerk are telling us.
When I started this piece, I was disgusted by twerking. I understand it better now that I have given it some thought. If twerking is indeed a sign of disrespect for the civilization they were born into, I have to agree with that disgust. How can a civilization be respected when money is the god we worship? How can it be worthy of respect when the poor are looked down upon and sent into the street to live despite all time record wealth? What do we expect when young people are cut loose from their families with no opportunity for a good life with a good, dependable job or the ability of owning a home, having a family? When a civilization exists only to send young people to war and then ignore them and their needs when they come home, how can we respect that? When the terms “mother,” “father,” and “family” are relegated to the dustbin in favor of “birthing parent,” “second biological parent,” and “reproductive unit,” how can we respect that?
It is clear that billionaires who cannot get enough money and power are controlling the world and have for some time. They control the media, which shapes our view of the world as well as the economy, the means of production and our natural resources. They are mostly responsible for the evil that has become life on this planet. How do we allow them to even exist? Twerking is simply a way of rebelling. Personally, I don’t like watching people twerk, but if it’s in rebellion against the life of lower expectations, then I say, “Twerk on!”
